Sergey Babak

Dr. Serhiy Babak, a Ukrainian educator and politician, holds a Doctorate in Technical Sciences and a Candidate of Economic Sciences degree. He pursued his economic education at Kyiv National Economic University and Napier University in Scotland. Additionally, Babak earned a law degree from the University of New Technologies and a degree in psychology from Uzhhorod National University.
Professional Career
Babak's professional career has been diverse, including roles as the Director of Educational Programs at the Ukrainian Institute for the Future, the Head of the State Enterprise "Scientific and Technical Center of New Technologies of the NAS of Ukraine," the Deputy General Secretary of the Ukrainian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce, and the Director of the Department of International Cooperation.
He also served as a member of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance and held positions as Vice-Rector and Advisor to the Rector at the University of New Technologies.
Political Involvement
Babak entered politics as a candidate for the "Servant of the People" party in the 2019 parliamentary elections, ranking 11th on the party list. At the time of the elections, he resided in Kyiv and held the position of Deputy Director of the State Scientific Institution "Center for Marine Geology, Geoecology, and Sedimentary Ore Formation of the NAS of Ukraine."
Following his election to the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament, Babak became the Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science, and Innovation. He also serves as the Co-Chairman of the Group on Interparliamentary Relations with Romania.
Controversy
Babak's doctoral dissertation has been the subject of controversy due to allegations of plagiarism. As a result, he was recognized as the "Plagiarist of the Year" in Ukraine in 2019.
