Early Life and Medical Education

Mikhail Bagotsky was born on August 11, 1879, in the town of Opochka to an ethnic Polish family. He embarked on his medical studies at the Moscow University but abandoned them due to his growing involvement in revolutionary activities.

Revolutionary and Party Work

Bagotsky became a close associate of Vladimir Lenin in Krakow and later joined him in Switzerland. He played a practical role in assisting Lenin with daily affairs, managing finances, and maintaining clandestine connections with German intermediaries. During his time in Switzerland, Bagotsky lived extravagantly, spending lavishly.

Family and Later Life

Bagotsky married Regina Eduardovna Birembaum, and their son, Vladimir, became a renowned Soviet electrochemist who made significant contributions to the space program. In 1918-1936, Bagotsky headed the Red Cross mission of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in Geneva, Switzerland.

Legacy

Mikhail Bagotsky was buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow. He is remembered for his contributions to the revolutionary movement and his work as a state official and medical practitioner.
