In 1977, Bozhenko began his architectural career in Barnaul. He held various positions, including architect at the "Altaigraжданпроект" institute, chief architect of the city (1982-1993), and chief architect of the city (1993-2007). Under his leadership, Bozhenko oversaw the reconstruction of historic city centers and designed numerous monuments and buildings.
