Biography of Sergey Israelyan
Sergey Khorenovich Israelyan (Armenian: Սերգեյ Խորենից Իսրայելյան) was an Armenian actor of theater and cinema, and a former member of parliament. He was born on February 11, 1937, in Ijevan, Armenian SSR, and passed away on October 16, 2003, in Yerevan, Armenia.
Education and Career
In 1965, Israelyan graduated from the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow, where he studied cinematography and directing. He worked as a camera operator and director of photography. Israelyan became a professor and was awarded the State Prize of the Armenian SSR. He was also honored as a Meritorious Artist of the Armenian SSR and a People's Artist of the USSR. In 1998, Israelyan received the Movses Khorenatsi Medal.
From 1955 to 1999, Israelyan worked at the Armenian Film Studio "Armenfilm," starting as an assistant camera operator and later becoming a camera operator and director. In 1987, he became the chairman of the Union of Cinematographers of Armenia. Additionally, from 1988, Israelyan taught at the Khachatur Abovian Armenian State Pedagogical Institute.
Political Career
From 1999 to 2003, Israelyan served as a member of parliament and was a member of the permanent commission on science, education, culture, and youth. On May 25, 2003, he was re-elected as a deputy of the parliament and continued his work on the commission. Israelyan was not affiliated with any political party.
