Sergey Pogosyan: From Economics to Entertainment Stardom
Early Life and EducationBorn on July 20, 1971, in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Sergey Pogosyan's family had been deported from Armenia in 1937. Despite this turbulent start, his father became a respected agricultural science professor.
After high school, Pogosyan pursued an economics degree at the Almaty Agricultural Institute, graduating in 1992. However, his passion for theater drew him to the Kazakh State Institute of Theater and Cinema, where he earned a second degree with honors in 1996.
Theater Debut and Acclaim
Upon graduating from acting school, Pogosyan joined the Russian Academic Drama Theater named after M.Yu. Lermontov. Despite humble beginnings as a part-time janitor, he quickly gained recognition for his remarkable talent.
In 2002, Pogosyan won the Kazakhstan State Prize for his portrayal in the play "Aesop." For 18 years, he hosted the TV program "TV-Bingo."
Film and Television Career
As Pogosyan's success in Russian television series grew, he began to film regularly, leading to his departure from the repertory theater. In 2016, he joined the Moscow Youth Theater, but continued to find solace in his hometown of Almaty.
Pogosyan is known for his portrayal of Armenian characters in series like "The Eighties" and "A Good Wife." Notably, in "The Shadow of Stalin," he gave a powerful performance as Sergo Ordzhonikidze.
Personal Life
Little is known about Pogosyan's personal life. He married Tatiana in his youth, and they had a daughter named Anna in 1996. Tatiana teaches Russian language at Moscow State University.
Almaty remains Pogosyan's favorite city, despite his extensive travels between Kazakhstan and Moscow. He describes himself as an atheist, yet respectful of all religions.
Recent Projects
In 2021-2022, Pogosyan starred in the online comedy "Sisters." He also continues to perform with the Moscow Youth Theater and appeared in the short video "Tolerant Flight" in 2022.
