Early Life and Education
Ivan Timchenko was born in a devout Baptist family in Lozovatka, Ukraine, and was baptized on August 19, 1918, in Kremenchuk. In 1923, he became a co-founder of the Baptist community in Lokhvytsia. He later attended a theological seminary through correspondence.
Career in Construction
Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, Timchenko worked in various construction-related roles in Lokhvytsia and nearby cities, including as a member of the State Construction Committee and as an inspector and accountant for railway projects.
Religious Ministry
Timchenko became a presbyter in 1927 and was ordained in 1928. From 1923, he served on the Auditing Committee of the Baptist Union.
Arrest and Rehabilitation
In 1945, Timchenko was arrested by the NKGB but was rehabilitated in 1947 due to lack of evidence against him.
Post-War Career
After his release, Timchenko continued his work in the construction industry in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan, and later in Moscow. In 1961, he retired from his engineering career.
Leadership in the Baptist Union
In 1966, Timchenko became deputy chairman of the All-Union Council of Evangelical Christian Baptists (VSEKhB) in Moscow, a position he held until his death in 1971.
Legacy
Ivan Timchenko was a prominent figure in the Baptist community in the Soviet Union. His contributions to the construction industry and his leadership in the VSEKhB made a lasting impact on the religious landscape of his time.
Family
Ivan Timchenko was married to Tatiana Kuharenko, who bore him six children: Flavius (1924-1942), Alise (born 1927), Yuri (born 1931), Boris (born 1933), and Vitaly (born 1938).
