Early Life and Skating Career
Sergey Verbilo began his skating journey in 1990. He initially trained in Ukraine and competed in ice dance with Anna Zadorozhnyuk. Together, they became two-time Ukrainian national champions.
International Success
In 2008-2009, the pair made a significant breakthrough by winning their first national championship. They placed 7th at the European Championships, their highest international ranking at the time. At the 2009 World Championships, they finished 15th, securing a spot for Ukraine in ice dance at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Olympic Qualification and Partnership Change
Verbilo and Zadorozhnyuk successfully defended their national title in 2010. They then finished 8th at the European Championships and qualified for the Vancouver Olympics. However, Zadorozhnyuk's injuries forced her to retire after the season.
Brief Partnership with Alla Beknazarova
Following Zadorozhnyuk's retirement, Verbilo briefly partnered with Alla Beknazarova, who was also without a partner. However, their collaboration lasted only a week before Verbilo decided to retire from competitive skating.
Post-Skating Career
After his retirement, Verbilo transitioned into a career in business. He also works as a skating coach and consultant in Moscow.
