Early Life and Career

Sergio Ibarra was born in Argentina and commenced his professional football career in 1992 with the Peruvian club Ciclista Lima. Despite his Argentine origins, he spent the majority of his career in Peru.

Success in Peru

Ibarra's most significant achievement came in 2004 when he helped his club, Cienciano, win the Recopa Sudamericana by defeating Argentine giants Boca Juniors on penalties. This triumph earned Cienciano the title of South American club champions.

Record-Breaking Goalscorer

In 2008, Ibarra became the all-time top scorer in the Peruvian championship after scoring his 193rd goal. He surpassed the previous record of 192 goals held by Osvaldo Ramírez. As of December 2010, Ibarra had scored 235 goals, extending his record by an impressive 43 goals.

Argentine Recognition

The renowned Argentine magazine "El Gráfico" hailed Ibarra as the most prolific Argentine goalscorer worldwide, surpassing notable players such as Carlos Tevez, Andrés Silvera, Luis Alberto Boné, and Javier Saviola.

Coaching Career

After 19 years as a player, Ibarra debuted as a coach for Cienciano on May 11, 2010. However, he continued to play for the club simultaneously. (Updated as of December 7, 2010)
