Early Life and Career
Sherif Sezer was born on December 12, 1946, in Mudanya, Turkey. Her ancestors hailed from Georgia and the Balkans. Growing up, she witnessed her parents' divorce and lived with her father. Despite her desire to pursue further education, she was forced to learn sewing. With her mother's help, she escaped to Ankara and eventually enrolled in a conservatory after graduating high school.
Theater and Cinema Career
After graduating, Sezer joined the Ankara State Theater. However, she faced challenges due to a temporary departure from the country. Upon returning, she worked as a waitress before being able to resume her theatrical career. Her film debut came in 1980 with "The Story of a Day."
Sezer gained recognition for her role in the award-winning 1982 film "The Road." This success led to roles in other films, such as "Hunting Time" and "Hakkari Season." After a brief hiatus in the 1990s, she returned to the screen in "Turkish Bath."
In the early 2000s, Sezer starred in prominent films, including "All About Mustafa," "The Mansion with Grapevines," and "Broken Wings." She also became more active in television, with series like "Tulip Time" and "Black Flower."
Recent Work and Accolades
The 2010s saw Sezer continue her success with films such as "The Cotton King," "Red Istanbul," and "Children Entrusted to You." In 2019, she played a leading role in the series "Confrontation" and appeared in "My Name is Melek."
Sezer has received numerous awards for her performances, including a lifetime achievement award from the Adana Golden Boll Film Festival in 2021.
Personal Life
Sezer has been married twice. Her first marriage ended in divorce after she moved to Paris with her husband. She later remarried in 1971 to Azmi Arna. Her daughter, Deniz Arna, followed in her mother's footsteps and became an actress.
Present Day
As of 2024, Sezer continues her illustrious career. She is actively involved in the series "The Kingfisher" and the upcoming film "The President."
