Biography of Shahram Amiri

Disappearance and Allegations
Amiri went missing during a pilgrimage to Mecca in May-June 2009. Some sources claimed that he was involved in military developments and Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, although there is no official confirmation of these claims. In October 2009, the Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki suggested that the United States may have been involved in Amiri's disappearance.
Alleged Involvement with the United States
According to sources in Washington, Amiri had been an American spy for several years, contributing to a national intelligence report in 2007. He fled to Saudi Arabia, where he was repatriated by representatives of the CIA. However, to everyone's surprise, Amiri expressed a desire to return to his homeland.
Controversy and Return
In an official complaint to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, it was reported that Amiri, along with three other Iranians, could have provided the West with information about Iran's nuclear projects. There were allegations that Amiri and another missing individual, Ali Reza Asgari, were part of a CIA project called "Brain Drain," which aimed to deprive Iran of its talented representatives. However, there is no official confirmation or evidence of the existence of this project.
Conflicting Reports
In March 2010, news agencies reported that Amiri was indeed in the United States. On June 7, 2010, a video was released, allegedly showing Amiri discussing the circumstances of his abduction. He claimed to have been tortured and forced to seek political asylum, sharing some secrets about Iran's nuclear program. However, another video appeared later on YouTube, in which Amiri claimed to have traveled to the United States voluntarily.
Return to Iran
On July 13, 2010, Amiri walked into the Pakistani embassy in Washington, D.C., and requested to be returned to his homeland. American officials stated that this decision was likely influenced by threats to Amiri's family from the Iranian government.
Current Status
The question of whether Amiri was abducted or fled remains a topic of debate. The Iranian government officially maintains the abduction narrative, but their true motivations remain undisclosed.
