Early Life and Education
Shari Springer Berman was born on July 13, 1963, in New York City. She pursued her passion for filmmaking at Columbia University, where she collaborated with fellow student Lisa Collins to produce the 18-minute short drama "Miss Ruby's House."

Collaboration with Robert Pulcini
At Columbia, Berman met Robert Pulcini, an aspiring writer. Their partnership proved fruitful, resulting in the screenplay for the 1998 documentary "Off the Menu: The Last Days of Chasen's," which garnered critical acclaim and accolades, including the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary at the Hampton Film Festival.
Acclaimed Screenwriting
Berman and Pulcini continued their successful collaboration with the screenplay for the 2000 documentary "The Young and the Dead," which explored youth culture and won awards at festivals including Telluride and Vienna. Their crowning achievement came with the screenplay for the 2003 feature film "American Splendor," which earned an astonishing 33 nominations, including nods at the Oscars and Satellite Awards. It won 21 of these nominations, including honors at the London, Cannes, Montreal, and Toronto film festivals. Berman and Pulcini also received the Writers Guild of America Award for their "American Splendor" screenplay.
Further Collaborations
In 2007, Berman and Pulcini penned the screenplay for "The Nanny Diaries," starring Scarlett Johansson, Alicia Keys, and Chris Evans. The duo's future projects include the biopic "Romanoff" about the famed restaurateur descended from Russian royalty, and "Get Serious," a film about the life of American comedian Sam Kinison.
Personal Life
In 1994, Berman and Pulcini tied the knot and later adopted a son, Antonio. The couple continues to work together on their acclaimed screenplays.
