Biography of Shawn Drover
IntroductionShawn Drover is a Canadian drummer known for his performances with the bands Megadeth and Eidolon. He started playing drums at the age of 13 and has since become a prominent figure in the metal music scene.
Early Career
In 1993, Drover founded the power metal band Eidolon alongside his brother Glen. The band gained recognition for their energetic performances and powerful sound. Drover's drumming skills became highly regarded in the industry, leading to his involvement with Megadeth.
Megadeth and Solo Projects
In October 2004, just five days before the "Blackmail The Universe Tour," Drover replaced Megadeth's drummer Nick Menza, who was unable to meet the physical demands of the extensive concert tour. This opportunity propelled Drover to new heights of success and cemented his position in the band.
Aside from his drumming talents, Drover is also proficient on the guitar. He showcased his guitar skills during a concert in Japan on April 3, 2005, and later joined Megadeth as their third guitarist during the "Gigantour" show in Toronto on September 3, 2005. For this performance, Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater took over the drums.
Furthermore, Drover has a solo song of his own composition, displaying his versatility as a musician.
Contribution to Megadeth
Following the departure of his brother Glen Drover from Megadeth, Shawn Drover approached Dave Mustaine to fill the vacant position left by Chris Broderick. He presented a video showcasing his guitar skills on both electric and acoustic guitars, which impressed Mustaine. Shortly after, an official announcement was made, welcoming Chris Broderick into the band.
Drumming Technique and Rumors
Drover is known for his unique drumming technique, as he does not cross his arms while playing the drum kit. This technique, known as "open-handed playing," sets him apart from most modern drummers. Additionally, Drover is left-handed.
In recent years, Drover has become the subject of various amusing rumors on Megadeth's official website forums. These rumors, similar to Chuck Norris facts, include statements such as "Shawn Drover can kill two birds with one stone" or "Once at an airport, Shawn Drover broke a shin with his leg... No one survived."
Personal Life
Currently, Shawn Drover resides in Kennesaw, Georgia, with his wife Jodi, daughter Alexa, son Ryan, and adopted daughter Hannah. As a musician, he utilizes equipment from Ddrum, Sabian, Gibraltar Hardware, and Vic Firth.
