Early Life and Influences
Udo Dirkschneider was born in Wuppertal, West Germany on April 6, 1952. His parents owned a factory that produced tools and instruments. The family moved to Solingen when Udo started school.
Udo's love for music began with a Beatles record and a portable tape recorder that his parents gifted him. Around the same time, he discovered the Rolling Stones, preferring them over the Beatles. As a teenager, he experimented with music, choosing the keyboard as his instrument. He learned to play with the help of self-study books and practiced with Michael Wagener, a future Accept guitarist and producer.
Formation of Accept
In 1966, Udo formed the band Band X, a precursor to Accept. His parents disapproved of his musical pursuits, but he continued to play. By the time he was 17, Udo was a skilled worker and quit the family business only after the release of Accept's third studio album, "Breaker."
Accept was officially formed in 1971. Udo went on to achieve worldwide fame as the band's vocalist but left in 1987 due to creative differences.
Solo Career and U.D.O.
After leaving Accept, Udo founded his own band, U.D.O. He reunited with Accept in 1993 and recorded three more albums before the band disbanded once again. Udo then reassembled U.D.O., with which he continues to perform today.
