Biography of Shawn Mendes
Shawn Peter Raul Mendes was born on August 8, 1998, in Toronto, Ontario. His mother, Karen, is an English real estate agent, and his father, Manuel Mendes, is a Portuguese bar and restaurant equipment salesman in Toronto. Shawn has a younger sister named Aliyah.

At the age of 13, Mendes started learning to play the guitar through YouTube video lessons in 2012. Within a year, he gained popularity on the Vine app by posting cover songs, accumulating millions of views and followers. His six-second covers of popular songs became particularly popular. By August 2014, he had amassed a large following on Vine.

In November 2013, artist manager Andrew Gertler noticed Mendes' talent and helped him sign a contract with Island Records in May 2014. His debut single, "Life of the Party," was released on June 26, 2014, and became his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching number 24 on July 12, 2014.

Before signing with Island Records, Mendes toured with the group Magcon and opened for Austin Mahone on a national tour. In July 2014, he released his debut self-titled EP, "The Shawn Mendes," which reached the top 5 of the Billboard 200 chart with 48,000 copies sold in its first week.

Mendes won the Teen Choice Awards' Music Web Star award in 2014 and collaborated with indie-pop group The Vamps on the single "Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart)" in September of the same year. In November 2014, he released his second single, "Something Big," which reached number 80 on the Billboard Hot 100.

On April 14, 2015, Mendes released his first full-length album, "Handwritten," which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart with 119,000 copies sold, making him the youngest artist since Justin Bieber to have a debut album at the top. The album achieved platinum status, and its third single, "Stitches," reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 2015, Mendes opened for Taylor Swift on her "1989 World Tour" and collaborated with Camila Cabello on the single "I Know What You Did Last Summer." He also made appearances as an actor in the television series "The 100."
In September 2016, Mendes released his second studio album, "Illuminate," which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and earned platinum certification. The album produced successful singles such as "Treat You Better" and "Mercy."
Mendes embarked on the "Illuminate World Tour" in April 2017 and released his third studio album's lead single, "In My Blood," in March 2018. He continued to achieve success with hits like "Lost in Japan" and "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back."
In addition to his music career, Mendes has been involved in philanthropy, including establishing the "Mexico Earthquake Relief Fund" in collaboration with the American Red Cross to help those affected by the 2017 earthquake in Mexico City.
