Cybill Shepherd is an American model, actress, and singer. She gained recognition as the winner of the "Miss Memphis" title and worked as a model in New York.
Early Career
Shepherd caught the attention of director Peter Bogdanovich and made her film debut in his movie "The Last Picture Show" (1971) playing the role of a high school beauty. Although their romantic and creative partnership was interrupted due to the failure of films like "Daisy Miller" (1974) and "At Long Last Love" (1975).
Breakthrough Role and Success
Shepherd's best role in the 1970s came in Martin Scorsese's film "Taxi Driver" (1976). She excelled at portraying ordinary young American women who remain within the confines of their own lives and social circles, embodying both wonderful and not-so-wonderful qualities of American women. Her characters were charming, rational, practical, and yet very independent.
Television Success
Despite not appearing in films during the 1980s, Shepherd remained popular through her television series "Moonlighting" (1984-89). She made her comeback in films with a role in Bogdanovich's "Texasville" (1990), a sequel to "The Last Picture Show" set 20 years later. She also appeared in films such as "Alice," "Married to It," and the TV film "Memphis" (1992).
Later Career
Since 1995, Shepherd has hosted her own self-parodying television show "Cybill." She has continued to work in both television and film, appearing in projects such as "Once Upon a Crime" (1992) and "Chances Are" (1989).
