Early Life and Education
Semyon Dolidze, a Georgian film director and screenwriter, was born on January 24 (February 6), 1903, in the city of Ozurgeti, now Georgia. He graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology of Tbilisi University in 1925.
Career in Film
Dolidze's career in film began in 1925 when he joined the Tbilisi Film Studio. He made his directorial debut in 1932 with the film "In the Land of Avalanches." Over the years, he directed numerous acclaimed films, including "Our Yard" (1956), "The Flower of Tbilisi" (1965), and "The Legend of Suram Fortress" (1985).
Literary Contributions
Beyond filmmaking, Dolidze also wrote plays, including "Eagle's Nest" (1947), as well as short stories and poems. He penned the screenplays for his own films as well as for those directed by others.
Animation and Politics
Dolidze contributed to the field of animation by writing scenarios for the animated films "Jay's Wedding" (1957), "The Mousetrap" (1965), and "The Nightingale's Anniversary" (1978). He was also active in politics, serving as a deputy to the Supreme Council of the Georgian SSR during its fourth convocation.
Legacy and Recognition
Dolidze's filmography includes over 50 films that have earned him recognition both in his native Georgia and internationally. He was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1965. Dolidze passed away on July 17, 1983, in Tbilisi, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of cinema.
