Early Life and Education

Ivana Gašparovičová was born into a humble family in Slovakia. She pursued higher education at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, where she studied civil engineering until 1965. Subsequently, from 1971 to 1973, she completed her postgraduate studies at Comenius University.

Professional Career

Prior to her husband's presidency, Gašparovičová established a successful career in the construction industry. She worked as a designer for Pozemné stavby, a state-owned company, for five years. From 1971 to 1991, she held a position in the investment department of the Ministry of Construction and Civil Engineering. In 1991, she became a certified real estate appraiser in the construction sector. Before her husband's election as president, she worked as a manager in a private construction company.

Role as First Lady

In 2004, when her husband, Ivan Gašparovič, was elected President of Slovakia, Ivana Gašparovičová became the First Lady. In this capacity, she represented her country with grace and distinction at official events both domestically and internationally. Beyond her official duties, she dedicated herself to various philanthropic initiatives.

Philanthropic Endeavors

Gašparovičová established the Sylvia Gašparovičová Foundation, which supports initiatives in education and healthcare. She also championed projects aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs and supporting parents. Additionally, she served as a member of the Movement for Democracy political party from 2002 onward.

Personal Life and Family

Ivana Gašparovičová married Ivan Gašparovič in 1964. Together, they have two children: a daughter named Denisa and a son named Ivo.

Honors and Recognition

Gašparovičová has been honored for her contributions to her country and society. She received the Grand Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog from Denmark in 2012 and the Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic from Spain in 2017. These prestigious awards reflect her outstanding achievements and the esteem in which she is held.
