Biography of Simon Osiashvili

Simon Osiashvili is a poet and songwriter who was born in 1950. He graduated from Lviv Polytechnic Institute in 1974, where he studied applied mathematics. It was at the age of 24 that Osiashvili began writing poetry, inspired by reading a poem called "Under Vivaldi's Music" by Alexander Velichansky.

In 1985, Osiashvili completed his studies at the Gorky Literary Institute, specializing in poetry. During this time, he was influenced by the works of both Lev Oshanin and Vladimir Kostrov. Osiashvili's first song, titled "Life" with music by V. Miguli, was performed by S. Rotaru in 1984. Since then, Osiashvili has written approximately 400 songs, many of which have become an integral part of the repertoire of artists such as V. Leontiev, V. Dobrynin, A. Glyzin, I. Ponaurovskaya, M. Shufutinsky, F. Kirkorov, T. Gverdtsiteli, I. Allegrova, T. Ovsienko, M. Rasputina, S. Lazareva, I. Saruhanov, V. Malezhik, K. Semenova, K. Orbakayte, A. Derzhavin, N. Senchukova, V. Legkostupova, V. Stashevsky, A. Kalyanov, the bands "SINYAYA PTITSA" and "VESELYE REBYATA," and the ensemble "ZOLOTOE KOL'TSO," among others.

Osiashvili collaborates with various composers, including D. Tukhmanov, V. Dobrynin, I. Krutoy, V. Chaika, A. Lukyanov, Yu. Varum, A. Ukupnik, I. Saruhanov, V. Matecky, V. Malezhik, I. Zubkov, S. Pavliashvili, E. Koblyansky, and A. Derzhavin. Some of Osiashvili's most famous songs include "Don't Pour Salt on My Wounds," "Grandmas and Old Ladies," "For Lovely Ladies," "Kisa," "Well," "A Drop in the Sea" (music by V. Dobrynin), "Dear Old Folks" (I. Saruhanov), "You Are My God" (S. Pavliashvili), "Winter Garden" (A. Glyzin), "First Flowers" (A. Derzhavin), "At the Opera from Petrovka" (I. Zubkov).

Osiashvili has been a multiple winner of the "Song of the Year" television festival. He recorded his first song in 1985, titled "Flower Seller" with music by Yu. Varum, and released his first mini-album, "Dear Old Folks," in the same year.

Since 1993, Osiashvili has been performing as a solo artist. His album "Rest Your Head on My Shoulder" was a significant milestone in his career as he composed both the lyrics and music for all the songs on the album, which he also performed himself. In 1990 and 1993, Osiashvili held solo concerts at the Gorky Central Concert Hall in Russia. He has also written songs for the television film "What is Eralash" (1985) and the feature film "Primorsky Boulevard" (1990).

Outside of his musical career, Osiashvili is a member of the International Detective Club and serves as the Deputy Chairman of the "Book" Society. In 1996, he published a collection of poems and songs titled "It's Easy for Me to Live in Russia."
