Early Life and Military Training
Shirin bey Kesamanski was born in 1887 into a wealthy landowner's family in the village of Gyrag Kesaman. He attended the Tiflis Cadet Corps before pursuing further military education at the Konstantinovsky Artillery College.
World War I and Valor
Upon graduating from military school, Kesamanski was commissioned as a second lieutenant and assigned to the 156th Elizavetpol Infantry Regiment of the 39th Infantry Division. He fought bravely during World War I and was awarded the Order of St. Stanislaus, 3rd Class for his valor in the Battle of Sarikamish.
Service in the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic
After sustaining a wound in 1916, Kesamanski returned to Tiflis for medical treatment. It was there that he met and married the artist and activist Keisar khanum Kashieva. With the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) in 1918, Kesamanski actively participated in the formation of its armed forces. He served as assistant commander of the 2nd Equestrian Karabakh Regiment under the command of General Ali Aga Shikhlinski.
Rise Through the Ranks
Kesamanski held various leadership positions in the ADR military. From 1918 to April 1919, he headed the School of Ensign. He subsequently commanded the 2nd Baku Infantry Regiment before being promoted to colonel for his distinguished service in 1919. He went on to command the 4th Quba Infantry Regiment and later the Khachmaz Detachment.
Final Years and Legacy
In late 1919, Kesamanski contracted malaria and was transferred to Tiflis for treatment. He succumbed to his illness on January 4, 1920, and was laid to rest with full military honors in his hometown of Gyrag Kesaman. His unwavering dedication to the armed forces of independent Azerbaijan earned him the respect and admiration of his comrades.
