Early Life and Club Career
Cicinho was born on June 24, 1980, in Pradópolis, Brazil. He began his professional football career playing intermittently for Clube Atlético Mineiro, while also being loaned out to Botafogo.
Breakthrough with São Paulo
Cicinho's breakthrough came in 2004 when he joined São Paulo FC. With the club, he etched his name in the history of the Copa Libertadores tournament, scoring the 10,000th goal in the competition. Despite being a defender, Cicinho frequently contributed to the attack, scoring an impressive 9 goals in the 2004-2005 season.
Call-up to the Brazilian National Team
Cicinho's impressive performances earned him a call-up to the Brazilian national team in spring 2005.
Transfer to Real Madrid
In early 2006, Cicinho was acquired by Real Madrid for €4 million. He made his debut in the UEFA Champions League against Arsenal, and scored his first goal for the club in his fourth La Liga match.
World Cup Participation
Cicinho's first World Cup experience came in 2006, but Brazil was eliminated in the quarter-finals by France. Despite being a defender, he failed to register a goal in the tournament.
