Sissel Skille, a master of artistic dolls, resides in the quaint Norwegian town of Trondheim. Despite her current abode, she hails from a northern town in Norway, sharing latitude with the Russian city of Murmansk.

A Life Devoted to Art

From a young age, Skille was captivated by the beauty of children's faces. Her passion for art ignited within her, but she pursued it without formal artistic education. Over two and a half decades ago, Skille embarked on her doll-making journey, devoid of technical expertise or traditional training.

The Art of Childlike Innocence

Skille's signature style lies in crafting portraits of children. Her dolls exude an uncanny ability to capture the subtle nuances of character and mood. With their infectious laughter and striking resemblance to real children, it is often difficult to discern between the human subject and the polymer clay masterpiece.

Before initiating a creation, Skille meticulously envisions the child she will bring to life. She delights in observing children and translating their unique features into her dolls. Materials and Techniques

Over the years, Skille has experimented with diverse materials. The advent of Cerni, a supple and durable material, has become her preferred choice for the doll's head, hands, and feet. The body is constructed around a unique skeletal frame of plastic, wool, and fabrics. Hair is primarily fashioned from natural mohair or actual human hair. Skille's mother, Hilda, has been an invaluable collaborator, assisting in the creation of the dolls' garments.

International Acclaim

Skille's exceptional creations have earned her international recognition. She has exhibited her work in countries such as America, Germany, France, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Holland, Japan, and Russia. From 1992 to 1997, she partnered with an American doll company, providing designs that were subsequently reproduced in porcelain. Since 1998, Skille has collaborated with a German company specializing in vinyl replicas of her dolls.

A Russian Triumph

In 2008, Skille made her first visit to Moscow for the 11th International Exhibition of Artistic Dolls. Her work received accolades, earning her the prestigious "Golden Star" award, the highest honor bestowed at the exhibition.
