Sławomir Skrzypek

Sławomir Skrzypek is a Polish economist and politician who served as the President of the National Bank of Poland from 2007 to 2010.

Early Life and Education

Skrzypek was born on October 12, 1963, in Chorzów, Poland. He graduated from the Silesian University of Technology in Katowice with a degree in civil engineering.

Career

From 1993 to 1997, Skrzypek worked at the Polish Supreme Audit Office, where he audited the financial activities of the administration.

Mayor of Warsaw

In November 2002, Skrzypek became the Deputy Mayor of Warsaw. It was during this period that he met Lech Kaczyński, who was then the Mayor of Warsaw.

President of the National Bank of Poland

In 2007, Kaczyński appointed Skrzypek as the President of the National Bank of Poland. Skrzypek's appointment was controversial, as many economists believed he lacked the necessary experience. However, he had the trust of the President.

Skrzypek's tenure was marked by the financial crisis of 2008. He implemented policies to stabilize the Polish economy during the crisis. However, he also faced criticism for increasing the bank's foreign currency reserves.

Dismissal and Controversy

In 2010, Skrzypek was dismissed from his position as President of the National Bank of Poland. In 2011, he was charged with overstepping his authority by lending money to the government without parliament's approval. The charges were later dropped.
