Twenty-five years ago, she embarked on a new chapter in her life, leaving her homeland behind and embracing the vibrant metropolis of the United States.
The Artistic Muse Takes Hold
In 1997, Romma enrolled at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, pursuing her passion for screenwriting. Her talent shone through as critics hailed her three theatrical works at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club: "In the Eyes of Hope" (1997), "Get Me, Coyote!" (1999), and "Defenders of Prague" (2004).
Romma's artistic prowess also extended to film. She won the Garnet Bracelet Grand Prix for her film "Poor Lisa," starring esteemed actors Lee Grant and Ben Gazzara. Her expertise was recognized by the prestigious Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow, which bestowed upon her an honorary doctorate in 19th-century literature.
A Multifaceted Career in Academia and the Arts
Romma's contributions to the world of academia and the arts continue to inspire and enrich. She currently resides in New York City, where she teaches American literature at Touro College and screenwriting at the New York Film Academy. Simultaneously, she pens scripts at the Frederick Douglass Creative Arts Center.
