Sophie Løhde: A Political Force in Denmark
Early Life and EducationSophie Løhde was born on May 24, 1975, in Birkerød, Denmark. Her parents, Jens and Kirsten, instilled in her a passion for politics. In 1995, she enrolled in the University of Copenhagen, where she earned a Master's degree in Political Science. She furthered her education at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, obtaining a Master's degree in European Politics and Administration.
Political Career
Løhde's political journey began in 2002 when she worked as a political advisor to the European Parliament. She served as Deputy Minister for Gender Equality from 2004 to 2009. In 2011, she was elected to the Danish Parliament (Folketing) as a member of the Radikale Venstre party.
Rise in Radikale Venstre
Within the Radikale Venstre, Løhde quickly ascended the ranks. She became Deputy Leader of the party in 2014. In 2020, following the resignation of party leader Morten Østergaard over sexual harassment allegations, Løhde was elected as Chairwoman.
Minister of Education and Science
In February 2014, Løhde was appointed Minister of Education and Science in the second cabinet of Helle Thorning-Schmidt. She served in this capacity until the ruling coalition was defeated in the 2015 parliamentary elections.
Return to Parliament
Following the election, Løhde continued to serve as a Member of Parliament. She held several leadership positions within the Radikale Venstre faction, including Deputy Chairperson and Chairperson.
Personal Life
Sophie Løhde is married to Rasmus Dalsgaard, and they have two children, Gustav and Villads. She is known for her strong work ethic and her dedication to improving the lives of Danes.
