Aviation Medicine Pioneer
Konstantin Ziolkovsky (1857-1935) was an influential figure in the field of aviation medicine. He graduated from the medical faculty of Moscow University in 1913 and served as a military doctor from 1914 to 1919.
Contribution to Aviation Safety
In 1920, Ziolkovsky played a pivotal role in developing and distributing the "Statistical Card on Pilot Accidents" to flight squadrons. He analyzed the data collected from these cards and published his findings, highlighting the need for improved safety measures in aviation.
Establishment of Aviation Medicine Lab
Ziolkovsky's research and advocacy led to the establishment of a specialized laboratory dedicated to the study and improvement of pilots' working conditions in 1924. The laboratory was later renamed in his honor in 1928.
Tragic Demise
Sadly, Ziolkovsky died in the line of duty in 1925. His untimely demise cut short a promising career and left a lasting legacy in the field of aviation medicine.
