In 1992, Kruger landed her first television job as a reporter for the program "Wonder World" on the Nine Network, which ran for three years. In 1997, she moved to the Seven Network, becoming a reporter for the entertainment news program "11AM."

She also currently co-hosts the program "Today Tonight," which has been airing on the Seven Network since 1994.
Other Ventures
Kruger was previously one of the hosts of the morning radio program on Mix 106.5 in Sydney, alongside her old friend and colleague Todd McKenney and Andy Grace. In the summer of 2009, it was revealed that Todd, who openly acknowledges his homosexuality, asked Sonia, whom they have been friends with since the age of seventeen, to be the mother of his second child - his first daughter was born in 2007. Kruger did not agree to McKenney's proposal, but stated that Todd is a very caring person and would be the best father if she were to have children.
