Stan Shih, the founder of the world-famous company Acer, is a prominent Taiwanese business magnate, owner of a large fortune, and philanthropist. He was born on December 8, 1944, in Taiwan. After obtaining a prestigious bachelor's degree and completing his master's degree at National Chiao Tung University, Shih founded a company called Multitech International in 1976. At that time, the company had a capital of $25,000 and employed only eleven staff members, including Shih's wife, Carolyn Yeh, who proved to be an exceptionally talented employee and achieved great success in her profession.

Early Ventures and Shift to Personal Computers

Initially, Shih envisioned his company to focus solely on microelectronics production. For the first five years, the firm developed products exclusively for Taiwanese game manufacturers. However, Shih realized that at this pace, the company would unlikely reach the level of global manufacturers. Hence, he made the decision to shift the company's focus to the emerging market of personal computers. In the 1980s, Acer began its international expansion and experienced rapid growth.

Expansion and Renaming

In 1984, Acer established its first subsidiary, and three years later, it created Acer Laboratories Incorporated, which later produced its own chipsets. Just a year later, the corporation changed its name to Acer, which means "maple" in Latin. Shih remained the CEO of Acer until January 2005 when he retired and was succeeded by another talented employee, Gianfranco Lanci.

Philanthropy and Current Status of Acer

After retiring, Shih became actively involved in philanthropic endeavors and participated in various charity events and initiatives. Currently, Acer is at the peak of its success, regularly introducing both established and innovative products to the market.
