From 1782-1783, he pursued coursework in physics and chemistry at the Main School of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in Vilnius.

Priesthood and Academic Career

In 1784, Jundziłł was ordained as a Catholic priest. He continued his academic pursuits, teaching at the Piarist school in Szczucin (1785-1786), establishing a botanical garden, and founding a park near the Scipio estate. From 1786-1787, he attended lectures in chemistry and zoology at the Main School and a private course in botany under Georg Forster. In 1790-1792, he taught natural sciences at the Piarist college in Vilnius in Polish.

Profesorship at Vilnius University

Starting in 1792, Jundziłł became a professor at the Main School of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. He pursued further studies in Austria, Saxony, and Hungary, where he attended courses in animal anatomy, physiology, pharmacy, pathology, and therapy in Vienna (1795-1796).

Upon returning in 1797, Jundziłł was appointed vice-professor at the Main School. From 1798, he held a doctorate in philosophy and lectured independently. In 1802, he became a professor of botany and zoology, the first native-born professor in these fields. He headed the Department of Natural Sciences at Vilnius University until 1824.

Botanical Endeavors

In 1799, Jundziłł inherited the botanical garden from F. Spitznagel. He relocated the garden to Sereikiškės and significantly expanded it. He also enriched the zoological collections of the natural science department and established a mineralogical cabinet.

Scientific Publications and Societies

Jundziłł was a member of several scientific societies, including the Warsaw Society of Friends of Science, the Warsaw Agricultural Society, and the Moscow Society of Naturalists. From 1805, he served as editor and an active contributor to the Vilnius monthly newspaper "Dziennik Wileński."

Legacy

After retiring in 1826, Jundziłł traveled extensively, visiting botanical and horticultural gardens in Carlsbad, Warsaw, Wroclaw, and Berlin. He passed away in Vilnius in 1847. Jundziłł is remembered as one of the founders of veterinary medicine in Lithuania and for his contributions to the study of botany, entomology, and ornithology. His work on Lithuanian flora earned him a gold medal from King Stanisław August of Poland. A street in the Kairenai district of Vilnius bears his name.
