Career at the Boston Herald American
In 1966, Forman joined the Boston Herald as a photo lab technician. His exceptional talent and curiosity led to his promotion as a staff photographer, a position he held until the mid-1980s. His news coverage garnered widespread recognition and established the publication as a trusted news source.
Unveiling the Social and Political Landscape
In the mid-1970s, Forman's photography evolved, reflecting social and political undertones. Notably, his 1975 photograph "Fire Escape Collapse" depicted the tragic fall of Diana Bryant and her daughter from a burning Boston building. The Pulitzer Prize-winning image poignantly captured the despair and fragility of life.
"The Soiling of Old Glory"
The following year, Forman's "The Soiling of Old Glory" sparked national outrage. The photograph portrayed the brutal assault on a black lawyer during anti-busing protests. It earned Forman a second Pulitzer Prize, solidifying his status as an exceptional photojournalist.
