Early Life and Education
Stefan Klos, a renowned German goalkeeper, commenced his educational journey at Theodor-Heuss-Realschule in Dortmund-Eving from 1982 to 1988. During his school years, he met his future wife.
Football Career at Borussia Dortmund
After graduating, Klos joined the youth team of Eintracht Dortmund. In 1990, he made a pivotal move to Borussia Dortmund. Within his second season at Dortmund, he became a regular starter and helped the club secure two Bundesliga titles in 1995 and 1996. The crowning moment of his Dortmund career came in 1997 when he triumphed in the UEFA Champions League final. He also played in the 1993 UEFA Cup final, although Dortmund unfortunately lost to Juventus.
Triumph with Rangers
On December 24, 1998, Klos embarked on a new chapter in his career by signing for Scottish giants Rangers. With the Glasgow side, he experienced a period of exceptional success, winning four Scottish Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups, and two Scottish League Cups. In July 2004, he assumed the captaincy, but a knee injury sustained in training in January 2005 saw him lose his starting berth to Dutchman Ronald Waterreus.
Return and Retirement
Klos made a brief comeback midway through the 2005-06 season, but he struggled to reclaim his starting role. Despite the departure of Waterreus in the following season, the emergence of Lionel Letizi and a cycling injury prevented Klos from regaining his place. He made a final appearance for Rangers in the UEFA Cup against Osasuna in February 2007, before announcing his retirement at the end of the season.
International Career
Although Klos never represented the German national team in competitive matches, he was included in the squad for Euro 1996 as the third choice goalkeeper. However, a thumb injury prevented him from participating in the tournament.
