A Young Woman's Struggles with Incontinence

A young woman from East Sussex, Stephanie Baldwin, found relief from embarrassing incontinence using a pelvic floor muscle stimulation device called Femifree. After giving birth to her son Jack, Baldwin experienced stress incontinence, a common type of bladder weakness caused by damaged pelvic floor muscles.

The Importance of Pelvic Floor Muscles

Pelvic floor muscles provide support for the bladder and bowel and help control urination. When these muscles are weakened, as they often are during pregnancy and childbirth, problems such as incontinence can occur.

Traditional Pelvic Floor Exercises

Baldwin initially attempted traditional pelvic floor exercises, but these exercises often fail because people struggle to target the correct muscles. To effectively strengthen these muscles, women should isolate the pelvic floor muscles and contract them 10-15 times daily.

The Femifree Device

When traditional exercises proved ineffective, Baldwin's physiotherapist suggested the Femifree device. This device delivers electrical stimulation to the pelvic floor muscles, promoting their strengthening. Baldwin used the Femifree device for 12 weeks, 30 minutes daily, five days a week.

Remarkable Results with Femifree

After just four weeks of using the Femifree device, Baldwin began to notice improvements. Within a couple of months, her incontinence had completely disappeared. Trials of the Femifree device have shown that 79% of women who used the device for 12 weeks experienced significant pelvic muscle strengthening.

Concerns Raised by Experts

Despite the positive results, some healthcare professionals have expressed concerns about the Femifree device. One concern is that the device may simply be causing the muscles to move without actually strengthening them. Another concern is that the device may promote cell division in women with abnormal cervical smears.

Baldwin's Confidence in Femifree

Despite the concerns raised, Baldwin is a firm believer in the efficacy of the Femifree device. She has used it again after the birth of her second child, George, and is confident that her pelvic floor muscles will return to their full strength once again.
