Stephen Adam Amell was born on May 8, 1981, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He attended a private boys' school in his childhood and later enrolled in St. Andrew's College. His uncle is the popular actor Mark Pellegrino, known for his role as Lucifer in the TV series "Supernatural," and his cousin, Robbie Amell, is also an actor.

In his youth, Stephen participated in various sports, which eventually helped him establish himself in the television industry. His athletic build made him a perfect fit for roles as macho men who easily won over women's hearts. However, success in acting did not come immediately for Stephen.

In the beginning, he pursued a career in business and worked for an insurance company. But he did not succeed in this field and eventually found work as a cycling instructor. Stephen's excellent physical fitness allowed him to excel in this occupation. When the opportunity arose to play a character based on himself—an instructor for a cycling class—in the American-Canadian TV series "Close Friends" (2004), he took advantage of it.
