Early Life and FamilyStephen Curry is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Golden State Warriors in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born on March 14, 1988, in Akron, Ohio. His father, Dell Curry, was a former professional basketball player who spent 16 years playing in various NBA teams and is currently a commentator for the Charlotte Bobcats. His mother, Sonya, played volleyball for the Virginia Tech Hokies. Stephen's younger brother, Seth Curry, is also a basketball player and currently plays for the Duke University.
High School and College
Stephen Curry attended Charlotte Christian School, where his father played for the Charlotte Hornets for 10 years. He was a standout player in high school and was named to the All-Conference and All-State teams multiple times. Curry helped lead his team to the state playoffs three times. After graduating from high school, he wanted to continue his education at his parents' alma mater, Virginia Tech, but the university did not offer him an athletic scholarship. Instead, Curry chose to attend Davidson College in North Carolina.
During his three years at Davidson College, Curry played a total of 104 games and averaged 25.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. He was named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year in his debut season and the Southern Conference Player of the Year in the following two seasons. In 2008, Curry was selected to the Second Team All-American and the next year, he was named to the First Team All-American.
Professional Career
After three successful seasons in college, Curry decided to forgo his senior year and enter the NBA draft in 2009. He was selected as the 7th overall pick by the Golden State Warriors. Curry immediately became the team's starting point guard, allowing their star player, Monta Ellis, to move back to his preferred position as a shooting guard.
