Early Career: Formula Ford and British Formula 3
In 2004, Jelley transitioned from Formula Ford to the National Class of British Formula 3, achieving three victories. From 2006 to 2007, he competed for Räikkönen Robertson Racing in British Formula 3, securing eight podium finishes (including two wins) to claim third place in the championship.
GP2 Asia and the Switch to Touring Cars
Jelley briefly participated in the 2008 GP2 Asia season for ART Grand Prix. However, unlike his teammate Romain Grosjean (who won the championship), Jelley failed to score any points, finishing the season in 24th place.
British Touring Car Championship
In 2008, Jelley shifted his focus to touring cars, joining Team RAC in the BTCC alongside Colin Turkington. His initial results were uninspiring, with just one point in his first four races. Gradually, he improved, scoring points in each of the following three rounds, with a best finish of eighth. He narrowly missed out on a seventh-place finish at Oulton Park, dropping to tenth. At Silverstone, he qualified seventh but crashed out of race 25 after finishing 26th, sustaining a shoulder injury. Nonetheless, he participated in the following race, scoring points. At the season finale at Brands Hatch, Jelley secured pole position. However, he later told ITV4 that his team initially did not believe it and thought the on-screen result was an error. Mechanical issues plagued the race, but he still managed to fight for points.
Continued Success in the BTCC
Jelley continued to race for Team RAC in the 2009 season. Midway through the campaign, he claimed two second-place finishes and a third place in the final race at Croft, his first career podium finishes.
