Early Life and Career Beginnings
Canadian actor Stephen McHattie was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. He pursued his acting education at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. McHattie's early work included appearances in various films and television series, such as "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Star Trek: Enterprise," "Highlander," and "Underwater" (1989).

Breakthrough Roles
McHattie gained recognition for his performances in films such as "300," "A History of Violence," "The Fountain," "Secretary," "Shoot 'Em Up," and "Beverly Hills Cop III." He also starred as Canadian hero Major-General Isaac Brock in the Canadian television series "Canada: A People's History" and as legendary hockey coach Dick Irvin in the film "Rocket."

Television Appearances
McHattie portrayed James Dean in the 1976 television film "James Dean: Portrait of a Friend." He had recurring roles in "Seinfeld" as Dr. Reston and in "The X-Files." From 1998 to 2000, he appeared in "Emily of New Moon," based on Lucy Maud Montgomery's novel.

Jesse James Franchise and Other Notable Roles
Since 2005, McHattie has played Captain/Commander Healey in all eight films of the Jesse James film series, based on Robert B. Parker's novels. He voiced the villain Vandal Savage in "Justice League" and portrayed Hollis Mason, the first Nite Owl, in the film adaptation of "Watchmen."

Stephen McHattie is married to actress Lisa Houle, with whom he has three children. He was previously married to actress Meg Foster.
