Biography of Stephen Shaun Griffiths

Stephen Shaun Griffiths was born on December 24, 1969, in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. He was arrested in May 2010 and appeared before magistrates, introducing himself as The Crossbow Cannibal. He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance, which took place on June 7 via video link from Wakefield Prison, and the hearing date for his case was set for November 16, 2010.

While in custody, Griffiths attempted suicide four times. On December 21, 2010, he was sentenced for all three murders after pleading guilty. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. The police had been monitoring Griffiths for two years before he killed his first victim, and his hunting rifle was confiscated. The police contacted the housing association that owned the apartment where Stephen lived after the tenant was seen reading books about dismemberment. The association shared the police's concerns and agreed to install a better CCTV system in Griffiths' residence. At the time of the murders, the police had no evidence to impose an antisocial behavior order.

Stephen's criminal history includes a three-year sentence he received at the age of 17, when he randomly attacked a supermarket manager with a knife. While behind bars, the offender claimed to see himself turning into a killer, and psychiatrists concluded that his fantasies could lead him to commit serial killings. In 1991, he was diagnosed as a schizoid psychopath, and the following year, Griffiths was sentenced to two years in prison for holding a knife to a girl's throat.
