The Birth of Twilight

In June 2003, Meyer had a dream about two young lovers sitting in a meadow. The boy, a vampire, struggled with his desire to drink the blood of his mortal girlfriend, despite his love for her. This dream eventually became the basis for her novel "Twilight". After several unsuccessful attempts to get her novel published, Meyer finally signed a contract with Little, Brown and Company for a three-book deal, earning her a $750,000 advance.

Success and Sequels

"Twilight", primarily targeted at a teenage audience, was published in the United States in the fall of 2005 and became an overwhelming success, reaching the fifth spot on the national bestseller list. Meyer then released a sequel each year: "New Moon" in 2006, "Eclipse" in 2007, and "Breaking Dawn" in 2008. Throughout the series, the story was consistently narrated by the young Bella Swan, but in the fourth book, Meyer gave voice to Bella's friend Jacob Black. Additionally, Meyer decided to tell some events from the perspective of Bella's vampire lover, Edward Cullen.

Other Works and Future Plans

In May 2008, Meyer released her first novel for adults, "The Host". The book tells the story of Earth being invaded by parasitic aliens known as "souls" who take over human bodies. Amidst this backdrop, a love story unfolds. Meyer plans to write two sequels to "The Host" called "The Soul" and "The Seeker". She also has plans for a ghost story called "Summer House" and books about time travel and mermaids.
