Early Life and Career

Steve Franken, an American actor, was born on May 27, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York. His cousin was United States Senator Al Franken. Franken's first acting role came in the CBS television series 'Playhouse 90' as the character Willie.

The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis

In 1959, Franken joined the cast of the CBS sitcom 'The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.' He played the role of a budding playboy for 35 episodes until the show's end in 1963.

Diverse Roles in Film and Television

After 'Dobie Gillis,' Franken played a wide range of characters in films and television shows, including a murderer in 'The Case of the Deadly Verdict' (1963), a young army officer in 'The Lieutenant' (1963), and a drunken waiter in the 1968 comedy 'The Party.'

Character Actor

From the 1960s onwards, Franken became known as a versatile character actor, appearing in numerous television comedies, including 'Bewitched' (1966-1971) and 'Love, American Style' (1970-1973). He also starred in the Disney film 'The North Avenue Irregulars' (1979).
