Biography of Steve Kimock

Steve Kimock is an American rock musician, guitarist, and songwriter. He was born on October 5, 1955, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In the mid-70s, Kimock relocated to San Francisco to play guitar in the folk-rock group "The Goodman Brothers."

Joining 'Heart of Gold Band'

In 1979, after working with saxophonist Martin Fierro in the salsa group 'Underdogs,' Kimock joined the 'Heart of Gold Band' with Keith and Donna Godchaux, and drummer Greg Anton.

Formation of 'Zero'

In 1984, Kimock, along with Anton and John Cipollina from 'Quicksilver Messenger Service,' formed the psychedelic rock group 'Zero,' which gained nationwide recognition.

Success with 'Chance in a Million'

With the addition of Judge Murphy in 1991, 'Zero' departed from their instrumental format and released their most successful album to date, 'Chance in a Million,' with songs written by Robert Hunter, the lyricist for 'Grateful Dead.'

Collaborations and 'Steve Kimock Band'

Throughout his career, Kimock collaborated and performed with various bands associated with 'Grateful Dead,' including 'Heart of Gold Band,' 'Kingfish,' 'Rainforest Band,' 'Missing Man Formation,' 'Phil Lesh and Friends,' and 'The Other Ones.' In 2006, he joined the 'Rhythm Devils,' a supergroup formed by 'Grateful Dead' drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart.

In 2000, Kimock formed his own band, the 'Steve Kimock Band,' and in 2009, he created 'Steve Kimock Crazy Engine' with his son John Morgan Kimock on drums.

Personal Life

Steve Kimock married Jennifer Brunner on May 30, 2000. They have two sons, Skyler Joe and Ryland Cazadero Kimock. Kimock also has two sons, John Morgan and Miles, from a previous relationship. In 2002, he returned to his native Pennsylvania to be closer to his family.
