Stephen Brust, Master of Dragheira

Stephen Brust, an American fantasy writer of Hungarian descent, has crafted a captivating world known as Dragheira.

The Enchanting Realm of Dragheira

Dragheira is predominantly inhabited by elves (who consider themselves humans) and humans (known as "eastlanders"). The story unfolds primarily in the elven lands, where society is structured around clans, each with its own animal totem. All elves possess some degree of "glamour," a form of magic. Eastlanders, in contrast, wield little glamour but may practice "sorcery." Only two clans, the crime-oriented Jaregs and the agricultural Teklas, welcome eastlanders into their ranks.

The Author's Cultural Influences and Artistic Endeavors

Brust draws inspiration from Hungarian culture and cuisine. He is also an accomplished musician, proficient in drums, guitar, and banjo. As part of the band "Cats Laughing" alongside fellow writer Emma Bull, Brust co-authored the novel "Freedom and Necessity."

Political Ideals and Personal Views

Brust identifies as a Marxist and Trotskyist. His political beliefs are often reflected in his works, exploring themes of social justice and economic inequality.
