Biography of Steven Schend

Steven Schend is a game designer and editor, as well as the author of several books. Born in 1967 in Madison, Wisconsin, he grew up in Kenosha, also in the state of Wisconsin. In high school, Schend developed a passion for games, and he went on to attend college in Madison, earning his degree in 1989. Before pursuing a career in game design, Steven worked as a teacher, janitor, bricklayer, and landscape designer.

In 1990, he joined the company TSR as an editor in the games department and began working on the 'Marvel Super Heroes' series. Schend has said that he started working on 'Marvel' from the very first day he walked through the company's doors. He was also involved in the development of the 'Forgotten Realms' setting, which he considers his greatest pride. His favorite creation within the 'Forgotten Realms' is the expansion called 'Sea of Fallen Stars'.

Together with Julia Martin, Schend oversaw the development of this setting and was responsible for the release of all related products for three years. In 1998, he decided to fully dedicate himself to game design. He began working on the 'Alternity' series of games and the 'Star Drive' setting.

Throughout his career, Steven Schend has worked as a game designer and editor for companies such as TSR, Wizards of the Coast, Bastion Press, Green Ronin, and Goodman Games. He also led seminars for game developers and taught at colleges, including Kendall College of Art and Design.

In addition to his work in the game industry, Schend has written a novel set in his own universe called 'Vanguard' and a book on game design. Some of his notable contributions to 'Dungeons & Dragons' include the expansions 'City of Splendors' (1994), 'Lands of Intrigue' (1997), 'Hellgate Keep' (1998), 'Cormanthyr: Empire of the Elves' (1998), 'Wyrmskull Throne' (1999), 'Skullport' (1999), 'Sea of Fallen Stars' (1999), and the book 'Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide to the Underdark' (1999).
