Early Career
Although Stuart Bingham's professional career began after winning the 1996 World Amateur Snooker Championship, he struggled to make a significant impact for many years. However, in 1999, he had his breakthrough moment at the Welsh Open, where he defeated John Higgins and reached the quarterfinals. At the end of that season, he made headlines again by defeating seven-time World Champion Stephen Hendry at the World Championship with a score of 10-7. Despite these successes, he finished the season ranked 97th.
Rise to Prominence
In 2002, Bingham qualified for the World Championship and defeated former finalist Nigel Bond along the way. He also had impressive performances in the 2004/05 season, reaching the last 16 of two ranking tournaments. His best season came in 2005/06, where he reached the quarterfinals of the Grand Prix and the UK Championship. Bingham also achieved a maximum break and won the qualifying tournament for the Masters. Although he narrowly missed the opportunity to join the "Top 16" elite list for that season, he secured his place in the Top 32.
Continued Success
In 2007, Bingham won the Benson & Hedges Championship again and reached the quarterfinals of several tournaments during the 2007/08 season. He had a strong start to the season, reaching the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters and finishing fourth in his group at the Grand Prix. In December 2007, Bingham reached the last 16 of the UK Championship. He achieved the same result at the Welsh Open, defeating strong opponent Stephen Maguire 5-4 after being 0-3 down. Bingham qualified for the World Championship and won his first match against Steve Davis, but was defeated in the next round by Joe Perry with a score of 9-13.
