Early Life and Career

Sun Yanan, a Chinese wrestler, began her journey in the sport in 2007 under the guidance of coach Liu Hai. Despite her relatively short stature of 158 cm, she competed in the lightest weight categories (48-51 kg).

International Debut and Early Success

In 2010, Sun made her international debut, winning the Asian Junior Championships in China and the World Junior Championships in Budapest in the 51 kg category. The following year, she emerged victorious at the Asian Championships in Tashkent, defeating Mongolian wrestler Tsogtbaazaryn Enkhjargal in the 48 kg final.

Olympic Aspiration

In 2012, Sun failed to qualify for the Olympics in the 48 kg category. However, she reached the final of the World Championships in Canada, ultimately losing to Canadian Jessica MacDonald.

World Championship Victory

In 2013, Sun claimed the World Championship title in the 51 kg category, defeating Mongolian Erdenechimegiin Sumiyaa in the final. She continued to excel in 2014, winning a silver medal at the Asian Games in Incheon after losing to Eri Tosaka in the 48 kg final.

Olympic Bronze and Later Career

In 2016, Sun defeated Kazakh wrestler Irina Borissova in the Asian Championships final. She went on to secure an Olympic bronze medal in Rio de Janeiro, overcoming Kazakhstan's Zhuldyz Eshimova. Sun's subsequent performance at the 2017 Asian Championships in Delhi resulted in a 5th place finish, preventing her from qualifying for the World Championships in Paris.
