Surkhay Akperov: A Distinguished Scientist in Engineering Mechanics
Early Life and EducationSurkhay Akperov, an Azerbaijani scientist, was born on February 8, 1954, in the village of Zakhmet, Masisky District, Armenian SSR. His academic journey began at Azerbaijan State University named after S. M. Kirov, where he graduated in 1976 with a degree in mechanics.
Research and Academic Career
After graduating, Akperov joined the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS), where he worked from 1976 to 1993. During this period, he dedicated himself to research in the field of mechanics of composite materials with curved structures. His doctoral dissertation in 1988 earned him the prestigious Doctor of Technical Sciences degree.
In 1993, Akperov moved to Istanbul Technical University (Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi), where he holds a professorship. In 2001, he was elected as a Corresponding Member of ANAS.
Contributions to Composite Materials Mechanics
Akperov's research has made significant contributions to the understanding of mechanics of composite materials with curved structures. His groundbreaking work on the three-dimensional linearized theory of deformed solids has laid the foundation for analyzing the failure and stability of composite materials and structures whose properties vary over time.
Publications and Recognition
Akperov is an accomplished author with over 130 published scientific works to his credit. He has also authored the acclaimed monograph "Mechanics of Curved Composites," published by Kluwer Academic Publishers in the Netherlands in 2000.
His contributions have been widely recognized, earning him the respect of peers and the scientific community. Under his guidance, 30 candidates and 3 doctors of technical sciences have successfully completed their dissertations.
Legacy as an Educator and Scientist
As a dedicated educator and scientist, Akperov has inspired countless students and researchers. He has played a pivotal role in promoting excellence in engineering mechanics and has left an enduring legacy in the field. His work continues to advance the understanding of composite materials and their applications in various industries.
