Susan Kyle, born Susan Eloise Spaeth, was born on December 11, 1946, in Cuthbert, Georgia. She grew up in a family of a nurse and a college professor, Maggie and William. Susan attended Chamblee High School and developed a love for Western novels, particularly those by Zane Grey.

In 1972, Susan married James Edward Kyle, and they had a son named Blaine in 1980. Later in life, her husband left his job to pursue a degree in computer programming, inspiring Susan to follow her own educational goals. At the age of 54, she enrolled in Piedmont College, Demorest, and graduated with honors in 1995, majoring in history. She also set a goal to earn a master's degree in history from California State University, where she planned to study the history of Native Americans.

Before transitioning to writing romance novels, Susan worked as a newspaper reporter for 16 years. She contributed to various daily and weekly newspapers, including the "Gainesville Times" and "Tri-County Advertiser." In 1979, she began selling her novels through MacFadden Romance under the pseudonym Diana Palmer.

As her writing career progressed, Susan also wrote science fiction novels under the name Susan S. Kyle. In total, she has published over 150 books. One of her novels, "Diamond Girl," was adapted into a television film in 1998.

Susan, using her most popular pseudonym, Diana Palmer, currently works with three New York publishing houses: Mira Books for her main romance novels, Silhouette Books for her contemporary romance series, and Fawcett Books for her historical romance novels.
