Early Life and Playing CareerSven-Goran Eriksson was born in the small town of Torsby, Sweden on February 5, 1948. He developed a passion for football at a young age and joined his local club, IFK Torsby, at age 17. Coaching Career
Eriksson's playing career was cut short by a knee injury in 1975. He subsequently transitioned into coaching, becoming the manager of Degerfors IF in 1974. Over three seasons, he guided the team from the Swedish third division to the top flight.
In 1979, Eriksson joined IFK Göteborg, a powerhouse in Swedish football. Under his leadership, the club won a league title in 1981, two national cups, and the 1982 UEFA Cup.
Success in Portugal and Italy
Eriksson's success in Sweden led to offers from abroad. In 1982, he took charge of Portuguese giants Benfica Lisbon, winning two league titles and a national cup during his two-year tenure. He then moved to Italy, managing AS Roma and Fiorentina before returning to Benfica in 1989.

In 1997, Eriksson joined Lazio, a traditional underachiever in Italian football. He quickly transformed the club into a formidable force, winning the Coppa Italia in his first season. In 1999, Lazio won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the Italian Serie A title in 2000.
