Feofanova's breakthrough on the international stage came at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton, where she fiercely contested the dominance of American favorite Stacy Dragila. Her impressive performance earned her a silver medal. Two years later, at the 2003 World Championships in Paris, she emerged victorious, showcasing her exceptional talent.
Rivalry with Isinbaeva
The 2004 season became a historic chapter in women's pole vaulting, marked by an intense rivalry between Feofanova and Elena Isinbaeva. Driven by mutual competition, both athletes shattered world records in rapid succession.
Athens Olympics and Silver Medal
The climax of their rivalry played out at the 2004 Athens Olympics. While Isinbaeva stumbled at 4.70 and 4.75 meters, Feofanova seemed poised to claim the Olympic title. However, Isinbaeva soared over 4.80 meters, leaving Feofanova to rue her failed attempts and settle for the silver medal. Isinbaeva ultimately triumphed with a world record of 4.91 meters.
