Born in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Sakhalin, to a pilot father, Svetlana's literary journey began early. She graduated from the history faculty of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Pedagogical Institute before pursuing a degree in English and German Philology at Zaporizhzhya State University.
