Sulkhan Tsintsadze Biography
Sulkhan Tsintsadze was a Soviet composer, born on August 23, 1925, in Gori. He was awarded the Stalin Prize of the Third Degree in 1950 and was recognized as a People's Artist of the Georgian SSR in 1961 and a People's Artist of the USSR in 1988.
Early Life and Education
From 1944 to 1946, Tsintsadze was a member of the Georgian Philharmonic String Quartet. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory, specializing in cello under S. M. Kozolupov and completing his studies in 1950. He also studied composition under S. S. Bogatyrev, finishing his studies in 1953.
Career
Starting from 1963, Tsintsadze taught the instrumentation class at the Tbilisi Conservatory and served as the rector of the conservatory from 1965 to 1984. He was also a deputy of the Congress of People's Deputies of the USSR.
Contributions and Achievements
Tsintsadze received the Stalin Prize of the Third Degree in 1950 for his String Quartet No. 2 and three miniatures for string quartet: "Lale," "Indi-Mindi," and "Sachidao." He was awarded the State Prize of the Georgian SSR named after Z. P. Paliashvili in 1974 and became a People's Artist of the USSR in 1988.
