Tamia Marilyn Washington Hill, known professionally as Tamia, is a Canadian-American R&B singer. She was born on May 9, 1975, in Ontario, Canada, where she spent most of her childhood. Growing up with three brothers, Tamia learned a lot from them. She showed musical talent from an early age and began singing in a choir before pursuing a solo career. Her powerful vocals gained popularity, especially as she actively participated in charity events, including performing for sick children in 1993.

In 1993, Tamia was honored with the prestigious Vocal Achievement Award. The following year, she received the esteemed Steve Ross Music Scholarship. Shortly after, Tamia caught the attention of producer Quincy Jones when she moved to Los Angeles. They began collaborating, and in 1994, at the age of 19, she released the song "You Put a Move on My Heart," which earned her a Grammy Award.
Tamia continued to release noteworthy songs that garnered attention from her numerous fans and earned her additional Grammy nominations. In 1997, she released her debut album "Tamia," which reached number 67 on the Billboard 200 and number 18 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums Chart. The album was also certified gold by the RIAA.
Following her debut, Tamia delighted fans with her second album "A Nu Day" and her third studio album "More" in 2004. In 2006, she released the album "Between Friends," followed by "A Gift Between Friends" in the following year.
In her personal life, Tamia is primarily focused on her husband and children. In 1999, she married basketball player Grant Hill. The couple welcomed a daughter a few years later, bringing them immense happiness. However, their lives took a challenging turn when Tamia was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a chronic illness. Since then, she has been under constant medical supervision.
In 2007, Tamia gave birth to their second child, and she stated that her pregnancy not only fulfilled a long-awaited desire but also significantly slowed the progression of her illness. Despite facing health challenges, Tamia continues to pursue her music career and inspire her fans with her talent and resilience.
